I used to budget very frequently, but it got away from me at some point…
Getting distracted and off-task can be easy when life is happening. When your energy is correct, it creates a different mindset. Right now, my discipline is entirely different than it used to be, and I have a little more focus on my goals. When a person is in a space where they don’t have to focus on so many different elements at one time, there is a little more freedom regarding progression in the direction of their life.
Being in a space where we have to rely on others to move forward can slow our process down, especially if we are surrounded by people who don’t have clear visions for themselves or are still determining the direction they want to grow in. I’m at a place where my energy is independent of indecisiveness, which allows me to prioritize better. That being said, partna’’ let me update you! If you have heard Beyonce’s song “Upgrade You,” the line, as mentioned earlier, makes a lot more sense when you say it out loud…moving on…
The woman I am now versus where I was five months ago are two completely different people. The beauty is that I can look back and see my growth. That feels amazing! The uncertainty of the future makes things less comfortable. I’ve been learning how to release control regarding the unknown. I am falling in love with not expecting the “next step” of my life. I used to be such a hardcore planner that I did not do well when life forced a shift. Now I’m learning that when changes and re-directions happen, it’s actually a blessing in disguise because you get to have a contrasting experience that slowly reshapes you to become a better version of yourself. If we resist drastic changes as they occur, we become susceptible to remaining the same. If you’re stagnant… you’re dead. I want to live. Scratch that, I am living, and it’s refreshing.
So what’s happening now?
Budgeting. Here’s the thing…your girl has goals! I’m delighted about these goals, but to get to those goals…I have to know where my money is going. If I know where everything is going and how everything works, I will know how to make it work for me. So, I’m buckling down on being disciplined regarding my monthly budgeting. For the sake of argument, let’s say I’m going on a budgeting journey. #GettingToTheMoney! Now, I personally prefer to use spreadsheets to get an overview of my budget. However, if you are more of a classic person, a tangible budget planner can be equally effective. Whatever works best for you, is what you need to do!
Increasing Exposure! For the longest time, I have been in hermit mode. While I am a person that values untainted energy through scheduled and limited social interactions (nice wording, right? 😝), to increase my opportunities, I have to break out of my comfort zone every now and again. Right now, I am doing things that, as an introvert by nature, make me completely uncomfortable. However, the discomfort feels pretty good! Documenting my life and new journey has allowed me to have a creative outlet with a sense of focus. The most important aspect is self-love. With every new task or creative endeavor I pursue, I feel like I’m flowing more into myself, and the people around me seem to be impacted positively! I’m all about the favorable change. If it’s drama free…sign me up!
Living with Intention. This is new for me. I think I’ve always just existed. Even my goals when I was younger were less laser-focused than they are currently. Experience has allowed me to depict what I want to see in my life accurately. Dreams that are custom-made for myself and my family. What does that look like? In the words of a few of my most listened-to artists, Jhené Aiko and Big Sean… it’s love and life. As defined by the pair in a YouTube short I’ve come across recently, love means “Living on Valued Energy,” and life means “Love in Full Effect.” My vision became apparent when I heard those two words broken down as acronyms. My dreams are defined by something other than what’s most popular on social media. Doing shadow work has given me the courage to embrace discomfort and encouraged me to embrace the authenticity of how I view love and connection.
Love for me is fuel. The driving force behind my purpose. It is rooted in the core of my being. Part of my purpose is to be a loving individual that helps people discover their best versions. Based on that notion, I use love as a foundation for who I am and the life I’m designing. This aspect allows me to connect all my goals to my primary purpose. The “thing” I feel I’ve been created to do. Once I discovered this about myself, my dreams became easy. Discipline became easy. I knew that I wasn’t only working for my family, money, or some form of greatness possibly rooted in ego. I was working toward a true internal purpose that connected me to why I am the way I am. Focusing on the things that make me unique and embracing those differences is m euphoric. If I continue to chart this new course, I’m certain some beautiful things will blossom on the other side.
As you go into the month of May, I challenge you to figure out and re-discover or redefine what purpose looks like for you. What life looks like for you. If you find yourself feeling stuck or unfulfilled…I can (almost) guarantee that whatever you seek is on the other side of that answer.
Cheers to a new direction 🥂.
