Let me be the first to acknowledge… I’ve been away for a while!
*insert awkward laugh here*
What can I say, sometimes in order to stay connected, one has to disconnect. In other words, there was a lot going on! Regardless, I want to catch up and I figured one of my most noticeable changes would be a great place to start.
A year ago, I embarked on a journey to improve my health and well-being. As a solo parent with a child under six, finding time for myself was challenging, but I knew I had to prioritize my health. Over the past year, I’ve successfully lost 43 pounds and, more importantly, maintained that weight loss. Here’s how I did it, focusing on reducing stress, modifying my diet, and incorporating practical fitness routines into my daily life.
Focusing on Stress Management Through Diet
Stress has always been a significant factor in my life, especially as a solo parent. Recognizing its impact on my well-being, I centered my diet around managing stress. One of the first steps I took was cutting out caffeine. While it gave me a temporary boost, caffeine often left me feeling more anxious and jittery, exacerbating my stress levels. By eliminating it, I found myself feeling more balanced and in control of my day.
I also started incorporating natural herbs into my daily routine. Rosemary, thyme, and chamomile became staples in my kitchen. These herbs not only added flavor to my calming teas but also offered calming properties. Chamomile tea, in particular, became my go-to beverage, helping me relax anytime throughout the day.
Practical Fitness Routines for a Busy Parent
Finding time to work out with a young child is one of the most challenging tasks I’ve faced! I realized that long, intense workout sessions weren’t feasible for my lifestyle. Instead, I opted for smaller and shorter weighted workouts. These workouts were manageable and allowed me to stay consistent. I started using an 8 or 20-pound weighted vest during my daily chores. Whether I was cleaning the house or doing laundry, the added weight helped me build strength without setting aside extra time.
When I could, I took walks outdoors. It was a simple yet effective way to stay active, clear my mind, and enjoy some fresh air. I also incorporated yoga into my again. Not only did it help with physical flexibility, but it also provided a space for stress relief and positive movement. On days when I felt up to it, I did 20-minute kettlebell workouts. These quick sessions were perfect for building muscle and burning calories without needing a lot of time.

Staying Hydrated and Healthy with Watermelon Juice
Hydration was another critical aspect of my weight loss journey. I discovered the benefits of juicing watermelon for additional hydration. Watermelon is not only refreshing but also packed with essential vitamins and antioxidants. Juicing it provided a delicious and hydrating drink, especially during the warmer months. It was a simple yet effective way to ensure I was staying hydrated throughout the day.

Maintaining a 43-pound weight loss over the past year has been an incredible journey. By focusing on stress management, modifying my diet, and incorporating practical fitness routines, I’ve found a sustainable way to stay healthy. As a solo parent, these changes have been vital in balancing my responsibilities while taking care of my well-being. I hope my story inspires you to find your path to a healthier and happier life. Remember, small changes can lead to significant results, and consistency is everything.
