There’s a certain clarity that comes from sharing a meal with someone who embodies resilience, faith, and love in their purest forms. That’s exactly what happened during a much-needed lunch with my dear friend, someone I’ve long considered the epitome of reinvention. Sitting across from them, watching the light catch the edges of their smile, I was reminded of how extraordinary it is to witness another human being continuously evolve.
This friend has lived through chapters that would bring most people to their knees—divorce, loss, moments where hope could have easily been replaced by bitterness. Yet, instead of shrinking beneath the weight of those experiences, they’ve grown. They’ve transformed in ways that leave no doubt that God is real, present, and working even in the darkest corners. Their life is a testament to that, and I’ve had the honor of witnessing their journey unfold.
What inspires me most is not just their ability to adapt, although that alone is remarkable. It’s their faith—the kind of faith that refuses to be shaken, no matter how hard life tries. As they shared their perspective, it was clear that worry has no home in their heart. Faith replaces any worry they have, sharing the understanding that our suffering is never in vain.
Their words hit me in a way I wasn’t entirely prepared for, like the weight of a gentle truth that had been hovering just out of reach. Faith, in its truest sense, isn’t just about believing in something bigger than ourselves. It’s about surrendering to the unknown with the assurance that we don’t have to hold the entire world on our shoulders. While I understand that not everyone follows the same path of faith that I do, I think most of us can connect to the idea of radical acceptance.
Radical acceptance is about leaning into what is, instead of wrestling endlessly with what we wish could be. It’s about releasing the need to control the wind and, instead, letting it guide us. Life becomes so much more freeing when we stop gripping so tightly, when we loosen our fists and open our hands to what the moment has to offer—even if it’s not what we expected.
My friend’s life is proof of what can happen when we do that. Their faith hasn’t just carried them through; it’s allowed them to thrive in the face of the unimaginable. Sitting there, I realized how much their resilience has motivated me to grow in ways I hadn’t even considered possible. It’s one thing to admire someone from afar, but it’s another to feel the ripple effects of their strength in your own life.
As I move forward, I find myself clinging less to the need for control. I’m learning to trust the process, to go with the wind and see what happens. I’m looking forward to the best and releasing the stress about the rest.
So, here’s to radically accepting the unexpected. Here’s to faith, however we define it, and to trusting that what’s meant for us will find its way. And here’s to the friends who remind us, simply by being themselves, that even in the midst of chaos, there’s a kind of peace that surpasses all understanding.
